Escape the bustling city centre and explore a different side of Hong Kong—one where tranquil shores meet European-inspired charm. This one-day itinerary takes you to Repulse Bay and Stanley, offering a perfect blend of literary history, coastal beauty, and laid-back vibes.
Effortless Transportation
The journey begins at Admiralty MTR station. Take Exit C and head right to catch bus routes 6, 6X, or 260. The approximately 30-minute ride to Repulse Bay (costing HK$10.75) is a visual treat. From Repulse Bay to Stanley Plaza (HK$5.87), continue on the same bus routes. For the best views, secure a window seat on the right side of the bus and prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking coastal highway. WeChat Pay and Alipay are accepted on the bus.
Repulse Bay: Where Romance Meets Relaxation
- The Repulse Bay: Step back in time at this iconic landmark, famously featured in Eileen Chang's novel "Love in a Fallen City." Explore the picturesque gardens, fountain, grand staircase, and tranquil courtyard. The area offers a wealth of photo opportunities, perfect for capturing vintage-inspired memories.
- Repulse Bay Beach: Just a short walk across the road, this pristine beach boasts soft sand and clear waters. Take off your shoes and enjoy a stroll along the shore, soaking up the sun and experiencing a slower pace of life.
Stanley: A European Village by the Sea
- Stanley Plaza, Stanley Main Street, and Murray House: Alight at Stanley Plaza and take the escalator down to the first floor. Head towards the beach to discover a cluster of attractions, including the iconic Blake Pier at Stanley. The popular "Yellow House" is situated at the end of Stanley Main Street, offering a unique photo opportunity away from the usual crowds.
- Stanley Market: Continue along Stanley Main Street to reach Stanley Market, a treasure trove of souvenirs and locally crafted items. Don't miss the chance to sample authentic Hong Kong cuisine at "Min Yik," a local favourite (cash only).
Note: Plenty of shops and restaurants in Stanley Market may only accept cash payments. It is recommended to bring some Hong Kong dollars.
Return Journey
After enjoying the sunset, return to the Stanley Plaza bus stop and catch bus routes 6, 66, or 6X towards Central. For the return journey, sit on the left side of the bus to enjoy the sunset views over the sea.
