On Nov. 10, a Chinese fishing vessel capsized in the waters near Gunsan City, North Jeolla Province, South Korea. Among the 11 people on board, two were rescued by a nearby cargo ship, while the status of the remaining nine remains unknown. According to Yonhap News Agency on Nov. 10, the South Korean coast guard has decided to conduct an overnight search for the nine missing individuals.
Reports indicate that the South Korean coast guard plans to focus on search and rescue operations in the affected waters over the next three days. Due to difficulties in using aircraft for night searches, the coast guard will form a fleet of patrol vessels to conduct the operation. Currently, the South Korean coast guard has mobilized four patrol ships and three helicopters to search for the missing individuals. The Chinese coast guard has also urgently dispatched patrol vessels and personnel to assist, Yonhap reported.
Details disclosed by South Korean media revealed that the 99-ton Chinese fishing vessel capsized at approximately 8:53 a.m. on the 10th in waters about 150 kilometers southwest of Yeonsu Island, Gunsan City, Jeollabuk-do. The vessel had traveled to the area for fishing operations.
On Nov. 9, another Chinese fishing vessel capsized in South Korean waters, resulting in two fatalities and three missing persons. Yonhap reported on Nov. 10 that the South Korean coast guard stated search operations are still ongoing. Despite an overnight rescue effort in the incident area yielding no results, the coast guard is mobilizing two large patrol ships, three aircraft, and the Coast Guard Special Rescue team to intensify the search operations.
