Tropical Cyclone Fung-wong is expected to enter within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong around noon tomorrow (Nov. 10), and the Hong Kong Observatory will issue a standby signal No. 1 tomorrow afternoon.
The Observatory stated that according to the current projected path, Fung-wong will turn northward in the northeastern South China Sea. It will be closest to Hong Kong on Wednesday (Nov. 12), passing approximately 400 kilometers east of the city. Local wind strength is expected to increase from Tuesday (Nov. 11) afternoon into Wednesday. The Observatory will assess whether to issue a higher tropical cyclone warning signal on Tuesday based on the changing intensity of Fung-wong, its distance from Hong Kong, and local wind conditions. Following this, Fung-wong will move towards Taiwan and gradually weaken under the influence of the northeast monsoon.
Due to the combined effects of Fung-wong and the northeast monsoon, strong winds and rough seas are expected along the Guangdong coast over the next few days, with slightly cooler weather. City temperatures may drop to around 20 degrees Celsius in the middle of this week. During the night of Monday to early Tuesday, minor flooding may occur in some low-lying coastal areas. Residents are advised to pay attention to the latest weather updates from the Observatory.
