The city's four major chambers of commerce have jointly expressed firm support for the upcoming Legislative Council election scheduled for Dec. 7, 2025, and announced concrete measures to encourage voter participation, including offering half-day paid leave for employees who cast their votes.
The unified statement came from the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong, the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce – collectively known as the "Four Major Chambers of Commerce." They pledged to play a leading role in their sectors by implementing specific actions to foster electoral participation.
In their announcement, the chambers emphasized that Hong Kong is at a critical juncture in its development, facing multiple challenges while simultaneously embracing historic new opportunities and missions brought by national development. During this important phase, they stated, all sectors of society have the responsibility to elect patriotic, capable, and virtuous legislators to form a more efficient and high-quality Legislative Council that can work with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government to steadily advance the city and create new prospects.
The chambers are calling on all member enterprises and other businesses in the industrial and commercial sectors to actively respond to this initiative. They encourage companies to implement flexible work arrangements and compensatory leave where possible to facilitate employee voting, thereby demonstrating the commitment and unity of the business community.
