The "Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation - Vietnam Edition," jointly presented by the Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore, with sponsorship from the Create Hong Kong (CCIDAHK) and the Film Development Fund, will be held from Nov. 6 to 8 in Ho Chi Minh City. Marking its first foray into Vietnam, the festival is set to feature a grand opening ceremony with special guests, renowned action star Sammo Hung and leading actor Louis Koo.
Under the theme "Together We Dare to be Powerful," the event symbolizes the courage and creativity of Hong Kong filmmakers in pushing boundaries and exploring infinite possibilities for Asian cinema. The program includes a prestigious opening ceremony and four screenings of Hong Kong films, inviting Vietnamese audiences to immerse themselves in the captivating world of Hong Kong cinema.
Having previously been held in Dubai, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Phnom Penh, and Jakarta this year, the "Hong Kong Film Festival" makes its debut in Ho Chi Minh City. The festival will open with the Hong Kong blockbuster "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In." Sammo Hung expressed his hope that the event would convey two core spirits of Hong Kong cinema to the local audience: "The uniqueness of Hong Kong action films and the perseverance of Hong Kong filmmakers!" Louis Koo added, "I hope the Vietnamese audience can experience the magic and sincerity of Hong Kong movies. The action and storyline in this film are particularly captivating, and we hope everyone will continue to support Hong Kong cinema. It's been a long time since I last visited Vietnam to meet my fans; I look forward to seeing everyone there!"
The festival will also showcase other films – "Stuntwoman," "Four Trails," and "Last Song For You" – highlighting the diverse creative power of Hong Kong cinema across action, documentary, and emotional genres. Director Albert Leung of "Stuntwoman" will attend a special sharing session on November 7 to engage in creative exchanges with Vietnamese film professionals.
