Distributed by Emperor Motion Pictures and directed by Singaporean filmmaker Wang Guoshen, the heartwarming drama "A Good Child" will officially hit Hong Kong cinemas on Nov. 20.
The film, which is inspired by the true story of the "drag queen" Sammi Zhen, has earned double nominations at the Golden Horse Awards for "Best Leading Actor" and "Best Makeup and Costume Design."
Starring talented actors Richie Koh and Hong Huifang, the movie delivers a touching narrative centered around family, identity, and reconciliation.
The film follows the story of Jia Hao (played by Richie Koh), a full-time drag queen who reconnects with his dementia-stricken mother, Ju Hua (played by Hong Huifang), through an unexpected twist.
One night, after a performance, Jia Hao forgets to remove his heavy makeup before returning home, startling his mother. In the moment, he improvises a "beautiful lie," telling his mother she actually has twins—a son and a daughter. To his surprise, his mother wholeheartedly believes the story, and from then on, she lovingly treats him as her daughter.
This leads to a series of bittersweet and humorous moments as the two navigate their "gender-misplaced" daily life. As secrets gradually unravel, past wounds are healed with tenderness, and mother and son ultimately rediscover each other through love.
