According to international media reports, continuous heavy rainfall triggered a severe landslide on the evening of Oct. 31 in Kenya's western Rift Valley region, resulting in at least 21 fatalities and 50 people missing. Thirty individuals with serious injuries have been rescued.
The disaster in Elgeyo Marakwet County has led to the destruction of over 1,000 homes and disrupted multiple roads. The bodies of the deceased have been transported to a nearby airport, while those critically injured have been airlifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities stated that rescue operations will continue throughout the day, with the government mobilizing additional relief supplies and accelerating road repairs to ensure efficient rescue efforts.
Due to ongoing rainfall in some areas, authorities are urging residents living near riverbanks and slopes to evacuate promptly.
