The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union (EU). Over the past half-century, both China and the EU, along with its member states, have undergone significant changes. Still, they have consistently remained important partners to each other. So, what comes to mind first when ordinary people in EU think of China?

From the magnificent Great Wall to the numbing and spicy flavors of Sichuan cuisine; from the trendy ip Labubu to BYD's new energy vehicles... foreigners' impressions of China are rich and diverse. One Belgian youth, who has not yet visited China, mentioned that his impression of China is of a vast and highly diverse country where modern cities coexist with traditional rural areas.

Meanwhile, a foreign interviewee who worked in China back in 1998 expressed amazement at the rapid development and changes in China in recent years, noting that " So fat they climbed in quality of motor cars and the buildings."

With China continuously optimizing and easing its visa-free transit policies, a wave of "China Travel" among foreigners is gradually rising. One interviewee shared that they sometimes hear "rather negative views about China" from various sources. However, after seeing content on social media from others who have visited, "it seems pretty nice over there in China… I think sometimes you have to see for yourself to truly understand."
