According to CCTV, the ripple effects of the US federal government shutdown continue to spread nationwide, with over 13,000 air traffic controllers now facing the prospect of missed paychecks by the end of October.
According to US media reports on Oct. 14, these workers have received what may be their final paycheck for the month unless the shutdown is resolved.
Air traffic controllers, designated as "essential personnel," are required to work without pay during the shutdown. Similarly, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) staff must also continue their duties unpaid.
The situation has intensified the ongoing air traffic crisis, as a shortage of air traffic controllers has already led to significant flight disruptions. On Oct. 11, staffing shortages were reported at the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) control centers in New York, Atlanta, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. By Oct. 12, over 8,200 flights nationwide were delayed or canceled.
