Recent public criticism has been directed at several sculptures in Land of Wilderness, a theme park in Lijiang, Yunnan province, due to the sculptures' unsettling and bizarre appearances. Artworks such as a "human centipede" and a "three-faced girl" have been described by visitors as disturbing and grotesque, sparking controversy online and offline.

In response, the park issued an official statement on Monday (Oct. 13), acknowledging that some of its artworks have drawn public attention and caused discomfort among visitors. The park extended its sincerest apologies to the public for any unease the exhibits may have provoked.

Emphasizing its commitment to listening to public feedback, the art park has taken prompt action and removed the controversial installations.

The theme park mainly features a variety of sculptures, according to a report by Hongxing News. On social media platforms, many netizens commented that the photos of sculptures circulating online appear unsettling or slightly frightening. However, others noted that the theme park remains a creative spot for photographs and should not be judged solely on one aspect.

In response to the recent online controversy, staff at the theme park told Hongxing News that it was originally designed to express children's innocence and playful imagination. As a result, some sculptures may appear whimsical, but they are also very photogenic and popular with children.

"Some people feel that certain sculptures are scary or bizarre, but this actually depends on each person's interpretation," a member of staff said. "Among the visitors who have come so far, very few have said they were frightened or found the sculptures particularly strange," according to the report by Hongxing News.

According to previous media reports, the park was created by the folk artist Qiao Xiaodao, with many artworks made from recycled materials. Adult tickets are priced at RMB 80 each, and the park features hundreds of uniquely shaped small houses.

Additionally, information released by Lijiang media in March this year indicated that Land of Wilderness receives over 30,000 visitors annually, with ticket revenue exceeding one million yuan.
