A netizen reported that when registering on NetEase Cloud Music with a newly acquired cell phone number, the platform automatically logged into CoCo Lee's official artist account after receiving a verification code. The account, under the name "李玟", displayed 261,000 followers, two badges, and a backlog of unread private messages. These messages, dated September to October 2025, included emotional tributes from fans.
NetEase Cloud Music promptly acknowledged the issue, attributing it to "number recycling" by mobile phone operators. The company explained that the phone number originally linked to Lee's account had been reassigned to a new user without prior unbinding. They confirmed immediate action to detach the number from the account and assisted the new user in re-registering.
While this appears to be an isolated case, it highlights wider issues concerning account security and digital legacy management in the digital age. Platforms need to strengthen account security protocols, improve technical safeguards and emergency response mechanisms, while users should also enhance their security awareness. Only through such measures can memories and respect be properly preserved in the digital realm.
