Following the recent revelation by the Chinese University of Hong Kong about blocking hundreds of suspected fraudulent admissions this academic year, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) responded to media inquiries on Oct. 13, stating that it has received hundreds of cases involving non-local students suspected of applying with false academic qualifications. However, it did not disclose which faculties these applications were related to, emphasizing that none of the cases resulted in admission.
HKU indicated that it takes cases involving false documents very seriously and adopts cautious measures when processing admission applications. If any suspected cases of false qualifications are identified, those applications will not be considered. Applicants found to have forged qualifications will face appropriate actions, and specific evidence of fraudulent misrepresentation will be reported to law enforcement for further investigation and prosecution. HKU also stated that it upholds the highest standards of academic integrity, maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards any violations of academic honesty and dishonest behavior, and will continue to enhance and implement new identification measures to rigorously investigate applications involving false representations.
Additionally, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has identified about 10 cases this academic year of non-local students suspected of applying with false qualifications, and has canceled their applications and admission eligibility. The university stated that it has been rigorously verifying the qualifications and related information of applicants through mechanisms such as interviews and qualification reviews.
