Athletes Share Preparations, Aim for Success on Home Turf

Chow Tai Fook invited world champion fencer Ryan Choi and speed roller skater Vanessa Wong to share their experiences.

Choi expressed that professional athletes must learn to coexist with pressure and perform under high-stakes conditions. He revealed he is currently in intensive training, fully prepared for both individual and team events. Competing at home, he acknowledged that audience support brings pressure but, more importantly, transforms into motivation. He hopes to deliver a peak performance for the Hong Kong audience, strive for gold, and share the joy with all supporters.

Wong shared her journey of overcoming injury. After getting injured in April and undergoing roughly six months of recovery, she has resumed training. Her recent silver medal at a national competition significantly boosted her confidence. She revealed this will be her first and last participation in the National Games, making it particularly precious. Her goal is to win gold in both individual and team events, hoping to share the victory with her team.

Medals Embody GBA Culture, 66 Rings Symbolize 66 Years of History

During a sharing session, Max Lam, the medal designer and Creative Director at Chow Tai Fook Jewelry Group, disclosed that the medal design took approximately a year and went through over ten versions, reflecting a pursuit of perfection. He explained that the 66 concentric rings on the medal's periphery symbolize the 66-year history of the National Games since its first edition, carrying profound historical and cultural significance. Furthermore, the design incorporates elements of the "Three Waters Culture" of the Greater Bay Area, presented in the form of a triple-water Möbius strip, symbolizing close interconnection. The medal's inner diameter is deliberately set at 60.0mm, a subtle nod to the number "66."

The medal, named "Leaping Hearts in Harmony" ("同心躍"), represents the concerted efforts and leap forward into the future of the three Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area regions. The ribbon clasp features a "Knot of Harmony" design, inspired by the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, transforming this steel corridor into a cultural emblem that reflects the Bay Area's role as China's southern gateway, connecting and integrating with the world. The medal also adopts the "Three Flowers Reflecting the Peony" concept, combining the official emblem with the peony, known as the "King of Flowers," symbolizing the Greater Bay Area thriving in unity, backed by the nation.

Lam stated that this design project was a national-level task, fundamentally different from ordinary jewelry design. It required creativity within strict constraints regarding materials, weight, and specifications, posing a significant challenge. He emphasized the team's aim to embed cultural meaning through patterns and non-verbal storytelling, allowing athletes who receive the medals to feel the history and significance they carry.

Concurrently, Chow Tai Fook's specially launched "Chow Tai Fook × 15th National Games" jewelry collection, drawing inspiration from the Games' emblem, medals, and mascot designs, was also displayed at the same venue.
