The observatory says the Strong Wind Signal Number 3 will stay in place until at least midday today (Oct. 5).
Over the past few hours, Matmo skirted more than 300 kilometres to the southwest of Hong Kong and departed gradually. However, under the influence of the outer rainbands of Matmo, local winds are still strong at first, occasionally up to gales offshore and on high ground. There will be occasional squally showers, thunderstorms, and intense gusts.
According to the present forecast, local winds will weaken gradually in the afternoon. When strong winds no longer pose threats to Hong Kong generally, the Observatory will consider issuing the Standby Signal, No. 1.
Seas will be rough with swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.
