The Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, a highlight of Hong Kong's Mid-Autumn Festival, will take place over three consecutive days from Oct. 5 to Oct. 7. This year's event introduces non-Chinese primary school students, who will participate in a cultural performance, marking the first time the event has included such an initiative.
According to Tai Hang Fire Dragon Commander-in-Chief Mr. Cheung, the aim is to help these students better understand Chinese culture and promote it abroad, amplifying the event's impact.
Cheung also stated that the event would be canceled if the HKO issues the Gale Or Storm Signal No.8, or a Red or Black Rainstorm Warning.

The fire dragon is approximately 67 meters long and takes months to construct. Discussing the preservation of the tradition, Cheung noted that the event began to decline more than a decade ago due to the physical demands, endurance, and teamwork involved in performing the Fire Dragon Dance.
Efforts were made to sustain interest through lectures and workshops, which were introduced over ten years ago. In 2019, a youth fire dragon troupe was established to engage younger generations and ensure the tradition continues.
