The Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction Council (NDRC) announced that as of 6:00 a.m. on Oct. 3, the earthquake that struck northern Cebu Province on Sept. 30 had affected 360,000 people.
The NDRC revised down the death toll from 72 to 68. Furthermore, 559 people were injured, over 5,000 houses were damaged, and 335 public buildings, including hospitals and schools, were damaged. A total of 53 municipalities have declared a state of disaster.
The NDRC has not yet provided a reason for the downward revision of the death toll.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the Philippine archipelago on Sept. 30, at a depth of 10 kilometers and an epicenter located at 11.20 degrees north latitude and 124.10 degrees east longitude.
