According to a report by CNN, on Sept. 25, US President Donald Trump signed a presidential memorandum seeking to reinstate the death penalty in Washington, D.C. Attorney General Bondi also announced plans to implement capital punishment nationwide.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said that in Washington, D.C., if someone commits murder or kills a police officer or law enforcement personnel, they should face the death penalty, and hopefully, this will deter such crimes from happening.
He added, "This is the death penalty for somebody that kills people in Washiington, D.C., I think it's capital. It's a very interesting...Capital punishment, capital city."
Standing beside Trump in the Oval Office, Bondi declared, "Not only are we seeking it in Washington, DC, but all over the country, again."
She added that the Justice Department is also in the process of placing inmates who had been moved off death row by former President Joe Biden into maximum security facilities. "We're moving them to Supermax facilities where they will be treated like they're on death row for the rest of their lives," Bondi said.
