The National Meteorological Centre has announced that this morning (Sept. 21), the active typhoon Ragasa in the sea has intensified to the super typhoon level, with a strength of 16 (55 meters/second), making it the "king of winds" in the Northwest Pacific this year. According to the latest typhoon bulletin from the National Meteorological Centre, Ragasa has reached a maximum wind strength of 17 (60 meters/second, approximately 216 kilometers/hour).

The National Meteorological Centre predicts that Ragasa will continue to move northwest at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour, with its intensity expected to further increase. On Sept. 22, Ragasa will pass through the Bashi Channel, entering the northeastern part of the South China Sea in the early morning of Sept. 23, after which it will head towards the coastal areas of Guangdong.

The National Meteorological Centre has stated that compared to summer typhoons, autumn typhoons tend to take a more southerly path and generally have a higher average intensity, often causing severe damage upon landfall. Historical data show that between 1949 and 2023, 34.88% of autumn typhoons that made landfall in our country were at the typhoon level, 17.95% at the strong typhoon level, and 4.10% at the super typhoon level. Among them, Typhoon Yagi, the 11th typhoon of 2024, became the strongest autumn typhoon to make landfall in our country on record (level 17, 62 meters/second).

The Guangdong weather Weibo account has issued a warning, stating that from Sept. 23 to Sept. 25, there will be significant wind and rain affecting both the sea and land in Guangdong Province, and preparations for "disaster defense" should be made in advance. It has released the latest predicted path, expecting Ragasa to initially move steadily northwest, and later, around Sept. 24, to approach the coastal areas of Guangdong while moving westward. There is a possibility of landfall at any time, with significant uncertainty regarding the timing and location of landfall.
