The 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum was held from Sept. 17 to 19 at the Beijing International Convention Center. During the forum, foreign guests, in interviews, expressed their hope that China can leverage its growing strength and assume greater responsibility in acting as a bridge to de-escalate geopolitical conflicts and safeguard world peace.
Air Vice Marshal Padman, from the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence, stated that the entire world, particularly the Global South, looks to China to contribute wisdom and strength towards building a better world. At this forum, he was particularly focused on examining world peace and sustainable development from an Asian perspective.
VADM. (Ret) Ahmed Saeed, President of the National Institute of Maritime Affairs in Pakistan, pointed out that China's contributions have consistently embodied the principles of peace and friendship. He highlighted President Xi Jinping's Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, Global Development Initiative, and the newly proposed Global Governance Initiative, all of which aim to promote a more balanced global security landscape. "So I think overall, China's role is going to be more pronounced in creating peace and stability at the global and regional level."
Doron Avital, member of the Advisory Board, Royal Institute for East-West Strategic Studies, comes from Israel, a nation currently embroiled in geopolitical conflict, and therefore has a heightened appreciation for the importance of international cooperation. He expressed his hope that the United States and China, as major powers, can work together to address global challenges. Particularly in regions like Africa, which are deeply mired in crisis, she believes both countries should collaborate to resolve international issues and prevent geopolitical conflicts.
Attila Demko, Professor at the Hungarian Administrative University and Former Director of the Defense Policy Bureau, mentioned in his interview that China made the greatest sacrifices in the Anti-Fascist War. He also highlighted China's success in alleviating poverty and leading its people towards prosperity, despite having the world's largest population.
"You can see that China did a lot, and let's hope that China will do even more."
