A United Airlines passenger plane made an emergency landing at Kansai International Airport in Japan last night (Sept. 12). United Airlines stated today (Sept. 13) that preliminary inspections found no evidence of a fire on the aircraft. Japanese fire authorities also concluded, after investigation, that there was no fire on the plane.

The flight in question took off from Narita International Airport in Tokyo last night and was originally scheduled to fly to Cebu, Philippines. During the flight, a fire alarm in the cargo compartment was triggered, prompting the emergency landing at Kansai International Airport.
Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides, resulting in two female passengers—one in her 50s and the other in her 80s—sustaining impact injuries during the evacuation, while three others suffered minor abrasions.
The Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism classified the incident as a serious event. Aviation accident investigators from the Transportation Safety Board arrived at Kansai Airport in the afternoon to conduct an investigation.
