Apple held its fall event at Apple Park in California at 10:00 am US time on Sept. 9 (1:00 am Hong Kong time on Sept. 10), with the theme "Awe Dropping." Apple's official WeChat account simultaneously announced the event, with the Chinese title "Super Burning Ahead."
The event featured not only the highly anticipated iPhone 17 series but also the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Watch Series 11 smartwatches. The AirPods Pro 3 also made their debut as expected, adding health monitoring and real-time voice translation features, which became another highlight of the event.
The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro feature a hot-forged aluminum unibody and an injected vapor chamber cooling design. The starting price is US$1,099. The iPhone 17 Pro will be available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB memory options. The iPhone 17 Pro Max will be available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB memory options.
The 3nm A19 chip reportedly powers the iPhone 17, boasts a larger 6.3-inch screen, and finally features ProMotion (adaptive refresh rate technology) with up to 120Hz. The rear camera is upgraded to a 48-megapixel fused dual-camera system, while the front camera is upgraded to 18 megapixels. The significantly larger square sensor adds numerous selfie features, including Dual Capture. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max use the A19 Pro chip, which Apple claims offers a 40% performance improvement over the A18 Pro, along with increased cache and memory. The three rear cameras are all 48-megapixel fusion cameras, with a telephoto lens of up to 200mm equivalent.
The iPhone Air released by Apple is its thinnest model to date, with a thickness of 5.6 mm and a starting price of US$999. It is worth noting that the iPhone Air is also equipped with the A19 Pro, but the specifications are a combination of 6CPUs + 5GPUs. The biggest selling point of this phone is naturally the "lightest and thinnest iPhone", with a body thickness of only 5.64mm and a weight of about 165 grams. The body uses a 6.5-inch ProMotion screen with a peak outdoor brightness of 3000 nits - the highest ever for an iPhone. The front and back of the iPhone Air use super-ceramic panels, plus a titanium alloy frame, to provide sufficient strength for the thin and light machine.
AirPods Pro 3 will feature AI-powered real-time translation and heart rate monitoring, and their battery life will increase from 6 hours to 8 hours when playing music. The AirPods Pro 3 will be priced at US$249.
The Apple Watch 11 will also add a 5G cellular module and high blood pressure detection. The Apple Watch Series 11 will start at US$399. Additionally, the Apple Watch SE 3 will be priced at US$249. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 will feature satellite connectivity, 42 hours of battery life, and will be priced at US$799.
