Locally, gale-force winds continue to affect many areas, and winds offshore and on high ground are reaching storm-force levels. Rainbands of Tapah will continue to bring heavy squally showers to the Pearl River Estuary at first today. The Gale or Storm Signal, No. 8, will remain in force at least until 1 pm. Depending on the degree of weakening of local winds, the Observatory will assess the time of issuing the Strong Wind Signal, No. 3, in the afternoon.
The seas are very rough with swells. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports. Under the combined effect of spring tide and storm surge, flooding may occur over parts of the low-lying areas in Hong Kong. A high water level of about 3 metres and 3.3 metres above Chart Datum was respectively recorded at Tai O and Tsim Bei Tsui, about 0.6 metres above normal. Members of the public should take necessary precautions.
