According to a report by CNN, on Sept. 3 local time, a US federal district judge ruled that the Trump administration's decision to freeze over US$2 billion in federal funding to Harvard University was unlawful.
The ruling, issued by US District Judge Burroughs, rejected the Trump administration's accusations of anti-Semitism against the prestigious university.
"In fact, a review of the administrative record makes it difficult to conclude anything other than that Defendants used antisemitism as a smokescreen for a targeted, ideologically-motivated assault on this country's premier universities," Burroughs wrote.
The judge overturned the Trump administration's "funding freeze order" and prohibited the US government from withholding additional federal funds from Harvard University as an act of retaliation.
In response, a White House spokesperson criticized Burroughs, appointed by former President Barack Obama, calling her a "radical judge" who, regardless of the facts, always rules in favor of Harvard University.
