According to CCTV News, on June 26 local time, Harvard University and the University of Toronto announced an emergency plan to address potential visa restrictions impacting international students. If US visa policies prevent certain Harvard graduate students from returning to the US, the plan will enable them to continue their education in Canada.
This marks the first international student emergency plan announced by Harvard since the US Department of Homeland Security revoked the university's authorization to admit international students last month.
Under the plan, students at Harvard Kennedy School who are unable to re-enter the US due to visa issues will have the option to participate in a visiting student program at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. The program will integrate courses taught by faculty members from both the Kennedy School and the Munk School.
In its statement, Harvard emphasized that the plan aims to alleviate uncertainties faced by students. However, the initiative will only be implemented if there is sufficient demand from international students who encounter visa or entry restrictions.
Harvard Kennedy School's media office noted that over the past five years, 52% of its students have come from outside the US.
