On the morning of Sept. 3, a grand ceremony was held at Beijing's Tian'anmen Square to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
This parade marks the first of its kind after China embarked on its new journey to pursue Chinese modernization on all fronts.
During the war, over 35 million Chinese soldiers and civilians were killed or injured, and direct economic losses exceeded US$100 billion. China paid one of the highest prices among all countries in World War II. Through immense sacrifice, the Chinese people made a significant contribution to preserving human civilization and defending world peace.
The hard-won peace we enjoy today was purchased with the blood of our forebears. We must never forget the painful lessons of war. Peace and stability are essential for humanity to achieve its dreams. Only when everyone cherishes and defends peace, and remembers the sorrow of war, can peace truly have a future.
Let us never forget history. Let us always treasure peace.
