An All Nippon Airways (ANA) Boeing 787-9 aircraft carrying 205 passengers and crew was forced to return to Tokyo's Haneda Airport after declaring an emergency due to engine trouble. The incident occurred during a flight bound for Paris, France, but ended safely with no injuries reported.
The flight, designated NH215, departed Haneda Airport at 9:38 a.m. local time. According to Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, the crew declared an emergency at 9:57 a.m. after detecting engine abnormalities. The plane returned safely to Haneda at 11:19 a.m., with the emergency alert lifted at 11:03 a.m. during the descent.
To ensure a safe landing, the aircraft reportedly jettisoned fuel mid-air to reduce weight and minimize explosion risks. Videos shared on the social media platform X appear to show the plane releasing fuel as it circled above Tokyo.
