Entertainment businessman Wong Pak-ming (also known as Raymond Wong) has been charged by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) with an insider dealing offence. The case was heard at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts yesterday (Aug. 25), where Wong pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution indicated that four additional SFC investigators involved in retrieving relevant WhatsApp communications would be called as witnesses. The defense, meanwhile, stated that it would raise a special issue during the trial regarding the admissibility of evidence from one mobile device and intends to call one defense witness.
Acting Principal Magistrate Cheung Chi-wai, David has scheduled the trial to commence on Nov. 20, with a pre-trial review set for Oct. 24. Both parties are required to address matters such as the handling of email evidence, arrangements for new witnesses, and the submission of expert reports.
According to the SFC's earlier disclosure of the case, between approximately Aug. 25 and Oct. 17, 2017, Wong, who was then the chairman and a controlling shareholder of "Pegasus Motion Pictures", is alleged to have encouraged or induced another person to trade in the company's shares while in possession of inside information.
