The Hong Kong Observatory issued a tropical cyclone warning at 3:45 p.m. today (Aug. 23), indicating that Tropical Storm Kajiki is moving steadily westward. Strong winds have been observed intermittently offshore and at high ground in the southern parts of HK.
According to the Observatory, Kajiki is expected to pass within 500 kilometers south of HK tonight, during which it will further intensify.
The Observatory stated that strong winds will occasionally affect the southern parts of HK and nearby waters from now until tomorrow morning. Unless Kajiki strengthens significantly or takes a more northerly track, the Standby Signal No. 1 will remain in force until at least 9 a.m. tomorrow.
Meanwhile, outer rainbands associated with Kajiki are approaching the waters south of HK and gradually moving toward the Guangdong coastline. Heavy showers, strong winds, and thunderstorms are expected tonight and tomorrow, with more frequent downpours earlier in the period.
