The new Policy Address will be published in September, and Chief Executive John Lee stated that the government has received over 6,900 opinions regarding the policy address consultation, an increase of about 10% compared to last year. He expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic participation and promised to carefully study these opinions and suggestions.

In a video posted on social media today (Aug. 17), John Lee mentioned that the past two policy addresses have highlighted the promotion of patriotic education, and this will continue to be integrated into daily teaching in the future. He noted that a few years ago in Hong Kong, it was unsafe and difficult to express feelings for the country openly; anyone who spoke of patriotism faced doxxing or violence. However, under the protection of the Hong Kong National Security Law and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance, the SAR government is promoting patriotic education, allowing the spirit of patriotism to take root in society, enabling citizens to express their love for the country safely and securely.

John Lee also mentioned that in recent years, around National Day and the anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR, there has been a noticeable increase in the display of national and regional flags across various districts, which is a commendable and prideful change. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan, and the government will hold a series of commemorative activities. Among these, the Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defense, established last year, will collaborate with the Guangdong Museum of Revolutionary History to host a special exhibition at the end of the month, showcasing the anti-Japanese activities in Guangdong and Hong Kong. He emphasized the hope that these activities will help citizens understand the history of the war, remember the sacrifices of the heroes, cherish the peace achieved, and transform the suffering captured in old photos into a driving force for resilience and progress.
