A UPS Boeing 747-8F cargo plane experienced a dramatic landing at Taiwan Taoyuan Airport during Typhoon Podul on Tuesday evening (Aug. 12). Video shows the aircraft's right engine scraping the runway and sparking during its third landing attempt in strong winds.
The Hong Kong-to-Taipei flight aborted two approaches before successfully landing at 8:09 pm, though the impact tore off the engine cowling. No injuries were reported.
The incident occurred as Typhoon Podul hit Taiwan with 150 km/h winds. Authorities have closed the runway for inspection while investigating the harrowing landing of the 68.5-meter wingspan aircraft.
