The Hong Kong Observatory stated that, according to current forecasts, tropical cyclone Podul will enter within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong tomorrow morning (Aug. 13), and the Observatory will issue a No. 1 signal at that time.
The Observatory indicated that due to the influence of the outer sinking air flows of Podul, the weather in Guangdong will be extremely hot during the day tomorrow, with thunderstorms triggered by high temperatures expected to affect the area later in the day. As Podul makes landfall in eastern Guangdong to southern Fujian on Thursday (Aug. 14), its associated rainbands will approach the Guangdong coastline. There will be occasional strong winds, heavy downpours, and thunderstorms on Thursday, with rough seas.
The Observatory will assess whether there is a need to issue a higher tropical cyclone warning signal from later tomorrow to early Thursday, based on the distance, intensity of Podul, and changes in local wind conditions.
