Hong Kong remains under the grip of intense thunderstorms linked to an active southwest monsoon and upper-level disturbances. At 2:00 p.m. today (Aug. 5), the Hong Kong Observatory issued a special weather alert, stating that the Black Rainstorm Warning Signal will remain in effect at least until 5:00 p.m. based on the current assessment.
As of noon, most areas in HK have recorded over 100mm of rainfall today, with HK Island, Kowloon, and Sai Kung seeing totals exceeding 300mm.
The Observatory advises residents to remain in safe locations until the heavy rain subsides. It will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide timely updates to help residents make necessary arrangements.
During the Black Rainstorm Warning, the government's Emergency Monitoring and Support Centre will oversee the city's overall situation.
