At noon today (Aug. 1), temperatures in various areas of Hong Kong rose to around 33°C. The Hong Kong Observatory expects that an active southwest monsoon and upper-level disturbances will bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to the Guangdong coast from this weekend into early next week, with significant rainfall expected on Sunday (Aug. 3) and Monday (Aug. 4).
The Observatory forecasts brief periods of sunshine and heat this afternoon, with temperatures ranging from 28°C to 33°C. There will be occasional showers, with thunderstorms in some areas. Tonight will be generally cloudy, with moderate southwest winds and occasional strong offshore gusts.
The Observatory also indicated that as the southwest monsoon eases and an upper-level anticyclone gradually covers the Guangdong coast, showers in the area will decrease by the middle to late next week, leading to improved weather and hot daytime temperatures.
