The Hong Kong Observatory issued a tsunami report today (July 30) at 1:30 pm, stating that a strong earthquake measuring 8.8 occurred near Kamchatka, Russia, at 7:24 am, triggering a tsunami.
The Observatory noted that if the tsunami continues, it is expected to reach Hong Kong around 5 pm today, with subsequent waves possibly occurring every 5 to 60 minutes. However, the Observatory predicts that the impact of this tsunami on Hong Kong will be minimal, with wave heights only about 0.1 meters above normal tidal levels or less, and residents need not be overly concerned.
