The Hong Kong Observatory has stated that the weather will be unstable from this week to early next week. It is forecasted that from today (July 28) until August 6, there will be frequent showers during most of this period. On Saturday (August 2), there will be intermittent showers and thunderstorms. From Sunday to Tuesday (August 3 to 5), there will be showers and strong thunderstorms. Additionally, the tropical cyclone Co-may is expected to move across the East China Sea, nearing the coast of East China in the next day or two.
The Observatory indicated that the tropical cyclone Co-may intensified from a tropical depression into a tropical storm east of Okinawa Island yesterday (July 27) and moved westward across Okinawa this morning. It is expected to continue moving northwest at about 15 km/h, passing through the Ryukyu Islands and the East China Sea, with landfall anticipated in Ningbo to Taizhou, Zhejiang Province on Thursday (July 30).
The Observatory also mentioned that a broad low-pressure trough will bring showers and thunderstorms to the southern coast of China in the coming days. Affected by the southwest airflow, the weather in the area will be hot in the latter half of this week, although there will still be showers. As the southwest airflow becomes more active, the weather along the Guangdong coast will remain unstable from the weekend through early next week.
The weather along the Guangdong coast is extremely hot. In Hong Kong, many areas are expected to reach temperatures around 33 degrees Celsius this afternoon. Additionally, the showers and thunderstorms associated with the broad low-pressure trough are affecting the interior of Guangdong. The Observatory anticipates that Hong Kong will be mostly cloudy today, with occasional showers. There will be brief periods of sunshine and heat this afternoon, followed by more showers and thunderstorms later. A moderate southwest wind will blow. There will be intermittent showers and thunderstorms tomorrow (July 29) and Wednesday (July 30), with a few showers and brief sunshine expected in the following days.
