The South Korean drama, Law and the City, starring Lee Jong-suk and Mun Ka-young, has been a hot topic since its premiere on Disney+ on July 8. The scenes filmed in Hong Kong have successfully attracted a large number of online viewers.
In the series, the characters played by Lee Jong-suk and Mun Ka-young begin their romantic connection in Hong Kong. Ten years ago, the two had never met but coincidentally traveled to Hong Kong from South Korea, taking the same flight and sitting next to each other. Even when retrieving their luggage and exiting Hong Kong International Airport, they did so simultaneously, leading to a romantic journey in the city.
With the enhancement of the drama's cinematography, the street scenes of Hong Kong are beautifully depicted. In the second episode, there is a particularly romantic 20-second scene where the main characters share a kiss on the Central—Mid-Levels Escalator. Additionally, some shots were filmed at locations such as Golden Valley Restaurant on King's Road in North Point and at the Park Lane Shopper's Boulevard. Lee Jong-suk also shared a photo on Instagram of himself riding a tram in Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board stated that, with its efforts, the South Korean legal drama Law and the City incorporated storylines set in Hong Kong and filmed on location. The Board has been dedicated to attracting renowned film and television platforms from around the world to shoot movies, dramas, variety shows, and informational programs in Hong Kong, promoting the city's unique charm globally to draw more tourists.
This time, the Tourism Board specifically arranged for the production team to film at various local attractions, showcasing Hong Kong's diverse aspects through the series. They hope to leverage the international influence of the South Korean drama to promote Hong Kong as a travel hotspot in Asia and worldwide.
