Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) today (July 25) signed a cooperation agreement to jointly build the city's first public electric vehicle automatic hydrogen charging system. The project will commence at Hong Kong Science Park and is expected to be completed and operational by the second quarter of next year. This will serve as a demonstration base for hydrogen charging in Hong Kong, marking an important milestone in the city's path towards green energy and sustainable development.
The gas company will construct the first public electric vehicle automatic hydrogen charging system, while the science park company will be responsible for its operation and management. The system includes hydrogen extraction, power generation, energy storage, and electrical control equipment, capable of directly extracting hydrogen with a purity of over 99.97% from the gas pipeline network. This hydrogen will be used to generate electricity for charging stations for electric vehicles in the science park.
Once operational, the system will produce enough hydrogen daily to supply five 7kW electric vehicle charging stations. The entire setup will operate automatically, requiring no manual intervention. Additionally, the hydrogen power generation process will only produce water vapor and will not emit carbon dioxide, making it clean and efficient. The gas company will also install energy storage equipment to ensure the stability of the power supply at the charging station.
