Tropical Storm Wipha | National Marine Forecasting Center issues yellow wave alert for Guangdong coastal waters

In the past one to two hours, strong winds have occasionally affected high-altitude areas in Hong Kong. According to the latest forecast, Tropical Storm Wipha will continue to intensify today and move toward the Pearl River Estuary. As its outer rainbands and strong wind zones gradually impact the coastal areas of Guangdong, wind speeds in Hong Kong are expected to increase progressively later today, accompanied by heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms with squalls. The Hong Kong Observatory will issue the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM today (July 19).

The National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center issued a yellow wave alert at 8 a.m. today. It is forecasted that from today at noon to tomorrow at noon, the coastal waters of Guangdong will experience high to monster waves of 2.5 to 4 meters, and the coastal wave warning level for this area is yellow.

48-hour forecast: From tomorrow at noon to the 21st at noon, the northern South China Sea will have monster to extreme waves of 5 to 7 meters, while the Beibu Gulf will experience high to monster waves of 3 to 4.5 meters. The offshore wave warning level is yellow. The coastal waters of Guangdong will see high to monster waves of 3 to 5 meters, with an orange warning level for this coastal area. The coastal waters of Guangxi will have high waves of 2.5 to 3.5 meters, with a yellow warning level. The northern and eastern coastal waters of Hainan will experience moderate to high waves of 2 to 3 meters, with a blue warning level for these coastal areas.
