In the past one to two hours, strong winds have occasionally affected high-altitude areas in Hong Kong. According to the latest forecast, Tropical Storm Wipha will continue to intensify today and move toward the Pearl River Estuary. As its outer rainbands and strong wind zones gradually impact the coastal areas of Guangdong, wind speeds in Hong Kong are expected to increase progressively later today, accompanied by heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms with squalls. The Hong Kong Observatory will issue the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM today (July 19).
The Tourism Commission announced that tonight's scheduled "A Symphony of Lights" show has been canceled, as the Hong Kong Observatory will issue the Strong Wind Signal No. 3 this afternoon.
Additionally, since the Observatory will upgrade the tropical cyclone warning signal to No. 3 between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM today, kindergartens (including afternoon and full-day sessions), schools for children with physical disabilities, and schools for children with intellectual disabilities will suspend classes after noon today. However, these schools must remain open and implement contingency measures to care for students who have already arrived. Students may only be sent home when conditions are deemed safe.
