The Hong Kong Observatory reported that a tropical depression formed east of the Philippines at 9 pm last night (July 16). It is forecasted that this tropical cyclone will generally move towards northern Luzon over the next couple of days, before entering the northern South China Sea and gradually intensifying. There is a significant chance it will move towards the western coast of Guangdong, but its path and intensity remain uncertain.

The Observatory anticipates that the tropical cyclone will gradually strengthen, entering a range of 800 kilometers southeast of Hong Kong at the level of a strong tropical storm by Friday night (July 18). It will then move northwest, approaching the Pearl River Estuary, passing approximately 100 kilometers south of Hong Kong at typhoon level on Sunday night (July 20), and making landfall in the Yangjiang area of western Guangdong on Monday (July 21). This prediction aligns closely with forecasts from the Central Meteorological Administration of China and the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, which also indicate a stronger and more westward trajectory.

Last night, the Observatory noted that the tropical cyclone located east of the Philippines is expected to generally move towards northern Luzon over the next couple of days, subsequently entering the northern South China Sea and gradually intensifying. It is highly likely to affect the western coastal areas of Guangdong, but its path and intensity remain variable. The Observatory predicts that this tropical cyclone will bring strong winds, heavy rain, and thunderstorms to the coastal areas of Guangdong and the northern South China Sea from the weekend into early next week, with large waves and surges at sea.
