The MTR will hold a half-price fare "Thank You Day" tomorrow (July 13), allowing passengers to enjoy discounted travel by using one of two payment methods. The offer extends to the East Rail Line's Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations, making it an excellent opportunity for those heading to the mainland for leisure.
Passengers can enjoy the 50% discount by paying with an Octopus card or QR code when entering the gates. The discount will be automatically applied and cannot be combined with other promotions.
The offer covers all eight MTR railway lines (excluding the Airport Express), Light Rail, and MTR buses in the Northwest New Territories. Notably, it also applies to the Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations on the East Rail Line, though first-class fares are excluded.
The "Thank You Day" comes after a major disruption on the Tseung Kwan O Line in May, where power and signal system failures caused a full suspension of services, inconveniencing passengers who were left stranded in stations. As a result of the incident, the MTR Corporation was fined HK$19.2 million, which was deposited into the "Service Performance Rebate" account. With previously accumulated fines, the total has now reached HK$25 million, prompting the company to organize tomorrow's fare discount event.
