The MTR announced today (July 11) that it will hold a half-price fares day on Sunday (July 13).

Passengers using Octopus cards to travel on MTR heavy rail, light rail, and the MTR buses operating on the Northwest New Territories route, or using QR codes for ticket purchases for heavy rail journeys, can enjoy half-price fare discounts.

The half-price offer includes cross-boundary trips between Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations on the East Rail Line and can be combined with transfers, special fare stations, and the 75% discount for monthly pass connections. However, the half-price fare does not apply to first-class compartments on the East Rail Line, the Airport Express, MTR connecting buses, journeys paid with physical or electronic single journey tickets, contactless credit cards or debit cards, and the high-speed rail (Hong Kong section).

Additionally, MTR will arrange for extra staff at stations to assist passengers and will closely monitor service conditions, making timely adjustments to train services and staffing as needed.
