A No. 1 signal is currently in effect in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Observatory announced this morning (July 6) that Tropical Storm Danas will pass about 400 to 500 kilometers east of Hong Kong in the coming hours, and the signal No. 1 will remain in place at least until early this afternoon.
At 8:00 am, the Observatory reported that Typhoon Danas was located approximately 420 kilometers southeast of Hong Kong, at latitude 21.4 degrees north and longitude 118.1 degrees east. It is expected to move slowly northward initially, then shift to a northeast direction at a speed of about 18 kilometers per hour, generally heading towards the Taiwan Strait and the western coast of Taiwan.
Once Danas accelerates and moves steadily northeast away from Hong Kong, posing no further threat to the region, the Observatory will cancel all tropical cyclone warning signals. Ocean conditions may still be rough, and the Observatory advises residents to remain vigilant, stay away from the shoreline, and refrain from water activities.
The Observatory also anticipates that high temperatures will continue to affect Hong Kong today, potentially triggering sudden rain and thunderstorms, with hot weather expected to persist on Monday and Tuesday.
