As of today (June 30), the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, spanning approximately 24 kilometers and connecting Shenzhen, Zhongshan, and Guangzhou, marks its one-year anniversary. According to CCTV News, the channel's landmark structure, West Artificial Island, is planned to open for public reservations by the end of this year.
West Artificial Island serves as a critical node for the transition between the bridge and tunnel of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. It will not only function as a transportation hub but will also support educational outreach, themed tourism, and research experiences in the future.
Covering an area of 137,000 square meters and shaped like a Kunpeng spreading its wings, West Artificial Island will house a cross-sea science popularization base for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Visitors will have the opportunity to closely engage with major engineering feats, including witnessing a scaled model of the world's first dual eight-lane underwater immersed tube tunnel and other 1:1 simulation models of innovative tunnel construction equipment.
The education base will offer immersive experiences through 3D displays, multimedia exhibits, and interactive installations, allowing visitors to explore the construction marvels of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Channel. Educational videos, illustrated books, and fun activities will simplify complex engineering concepts for a broader audience.
Reports indicate that the island is expected to open for reservations by year-end, with specific details on the schedule and process to be announced by the authorities.
