On April 5, the Guangdong Provincial Communication Group announced that during the Qingming Festival, traffic on the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link reached a new high of 178,400 vehicles.
Starting from April 3, traffic heading west through the tunnel steadily increased. The underground interchange connecting to the Guangshen Coastal Expressway on the Shenzhen side experienced some congestion in certain sections. According to a spokesperson from the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link, there was a noticeable rise in the number of people returning home to pay respects to their ancestors during the Qingming holiday, particularly from Shenzhen to Zhongshan and western Guangdong. The entire tunnel maintained high traffic levels, with April 4 marking the highest volume since its opening.
A peak in return traffic is expected to begin today (April 6). As rainy and foggy weather is common during this season, the tunnel management advises drivers to reduce speed, maintain distance, and use fog lights. They also recommend checking weather updates and planning trips accordingly.
