Heavy rainfall in Guangdong continued on June 17, with 59 rainstorm warning signals active, including 11 red alerts. From June 16 to 17, 924 towns experienced extremely heavy rain, particularly in Yangjiang, Maoming, and Zhongshan. Chengcun Town in Yangxi County recorded the highest rainfall in the province at 542.4 mm, along with a maximum 1-hour rainfall of 142.6 mm.
Meteorological data indicated that from 8:00 am on June 16 to 8:00 am on June 17, the average rainfall across the province was 54.6 mm. A total of 23 areas saw rainfall exceeding 250 mm, while 333 recorded 100 mm to 250 mm, and 568 experienced 50 mm to 100 mm.
On the morning of June 17, Guangzhou was heavily affected, with rain obscuring high-rise buildings and causing widespread flooding on streets, leading to traffic congestion. Many drivers reported difficulties navigating flooded roads, likening the experience to "rowing."
Meteorological experts noted that the heavy rainfall overlaps with the area impacted by this year's No. 1 typhoon, Wutip, particularly in northern Guangdong and the northern Pearl River Delta. This has increased the risk of secondary disasters, necessitating continued vigilance against heavy rainfall.
