According to Xinhua News Agency, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced on the afternoon of June 16 that the curfew in some areas of downtown Los Angeles will be shortened by two hours.
According to the statement, the start time of the curfew will be delayed from 8 pm to 10 pm every night, and the end time will remain at 6 am the next day. The curfew area remains unchanged. She did not mention when the curfew policy would be lifted.
Bass said that the curfew was shortened because the protests gradually cooled down and the public security in downtown Los Angeles has improved. No one was arrested by military police in the city center on the night of June 15. This was the first time since the protest against the federal agencies' search for illegal immigrants broke out on the evening of June 6.
Bass said in an interview with local media earlier on June 16 that the current situation is uncertain and there is no timetable for lifting the curfew policy. She revealed that there is no direct communication channel between the Los Angeles City Government and the National Guard and Marines on duty in the city center.
