Chief Executive John Lee met with reporters before attending the Executive Council today (June 17). John Lee said that the public consultation for the 2025 Policy Address started yesterday, and he and his team will attend more than 40 consultation sessions and two regional consultation sessions. He hopes to solicit opinions from citizens and all sectors of society to help formulate this year's Policy Address to better develop the economy and improve people's livelihood.
John Lee said that Hong Kong's economy recorded a growth of 2% last year, and this year's growth is expected to reach 2.3%, maintaining a positive growth trend of 2% to 3%. In this environment, the number of registered companies in Hong Kong has reached a new high, indicating that the business environment continues to remain attractive. However, Hong Kong is in a period of economic transformation, and some industries have performed well, but the retail and catering industries are facing challenges.
John Lee said that in response to the challenges, the government has introduced a series of measures to support SMEs in upgrading and transformation, enhancing brands, and exploring new markets. With the unique advantages of "One Country, Two Systems", Hong Kong enjoys the advantages of both the Chinese and international markets. It will continue to play the role of "super connector" and "super value-adder", deepen international cooperation, expand regional trade, explore new markets, and comprehensively promote economic development and improve people's livelihood.
