
The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced preliminary visitor figures for May. Driven by the "May Day Golden Week" in the Mainland and city events such as large-scale concerts, conferences and exhibitions, the preliminary visitor figures for last month were 4.08 million, up 20% from the same period last year; among them, Mainland tourists recorded 3.12 million, accounting for more than 70% of the preliminary visitor figures for May.
In addition, the number of visitors to Hong Kong from January to May this year recorded more than 20 million, an increase of 12% year-on-year; among them, Mainland tourists totaled about 15.2 million, an increase of 10% year-on-year. The growth momentum of other non-mainland markets continued, with a total of about 5 million visitors in the first five months, up 18% year-on-year. The number of visitors from the Taiwan region, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, and the Philippines increased by more than 25% compared with the same period last year, and the number of visitors from Australia recorded an increase of more than 35%.
