On June 12, a catastrophic air crash occurred at Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat, India, involving a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London, leaving the aviation world in shock. The aircraft crashed into a building near the airport shortly after takeoff, igniting a massive fire and sending plumes of smoke into the sky.
According to reports, the aircraft lost its signal at an altitude of 625 feet (approximately 190 meters), less than a minute after taking off from Runway 23 at 1:39 p.m. local time. Surveillance footage showed the tragic moment when the plane veered off course and struck the nearby structure.
In a chilling revelation, the plane's captain, Sumeet Sabharwal, issued a frantic "Mayday" distress call just 11 seconds after liftoff, shouting over the radio: "Mayday... no thrust, losing power, unable to lift.."
Despite his extensive experience of 8,200 flight hours and his co-pilot Clive Kundar's 1,100 hours of experience, they were unable to stabilize the aircraft. Roughly 17 seconds after the distress call, the plane lost control and crashed.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of India confirmed on June 13 that the investigation is focusing on several technical aspects, including engine thrust issues, aileron malfunctions, and why the landing gear remained extended during the brief flight. However, the possibility of a bird strike has been ruled out.
